The Front Door is Open to Sustainable House Signs

House signs and sustainability aren’t often mentioned together, but at The Bespoke Sign House, we’re committed to minimising emissions, reducing non-recyclable waste, and shrinking our environmental footprint. We take responsibility to make our high-quality bespoke house signs as sustainably as possible.

What Does Sustainability Mean?

In essence, a sustainable business is an enterprise that has minimal impact on the environment. Some examples of sustainable business practices include:

It’s important to recognise that sustainability isn’t quite as black and white as many would like to believe. It’s not an overnight process of making every aspect of a business fully green and eco-friendly, but instead is a journey of assessing, revising, and improving to better green standards.

In our industry of house sign makers, sustainable practices aren’t something that’s talked about anywhere near enough. Because of this, we’re striving to drive forward and lead by example to have a positive impact on the environment.

What Steps Have We Taken Towards Sustainability?

The Bespoke Sign House has already taken decisive steps to minimise waste and ensure our business is as sustainable as we can viably make it. Slate is now the main material used for our signs, with no chemical emissions needed for extraction, while being durable, natural, and easily recyclable, it’s clear to see why it’s an ideal foundation for The Bespoke Sign House to build upon.

With the right care, your sign will look its best for years to come - we’ve even put together some handy house sign care tips to help it last even longer.

To further strengthen our sustainability push, we’ve already taken further steps which go beyond the materials we use. These include:

Paper Tape All the Way!

Since the beginning, we’ve wrapped our signs for delivery using paper sticky tape. It’s not only better for the environment but also much easier to work with.

Reducing Waste Across Our Business

We're making great progress on eliminating single-use plastic in our sign-making production process, and actively make sure our slate and granite offcuts don’t go to waste - they’re repurposed for practical uses, like filling farm potholes in our local area, giving them a new lease of life.

We Only Manufacture Stone House Signs

We only craft stone house signs from natural slate and granite, meaning no acrylic, aluminium or porcelain - just natural handcrafted stone products.

Use Non-Plastic Wall Plugs for Our Sign Fixings

All our wall plugs included with our personalised house signs are timber-based.

Filling Potholes with Sign Offcuts

Our slate and granite offcuts are great at filling potholes on farms. Take a look at where one load of our offcuts ended up. Much friendlier to the environment than tarmac!

What Are Our Future Goals?

We’ve significantly reduced single-use plastics in our production, and we’re actively working to phase out more wherever possible. One key area we’re focusing on is finding an alternative to the sandblast vinyl we currently use for engraving - a vital part of crafting our slate and granite signs. As soon as a suitable, non-plastic option becomes available, we’ll be ready to make the switch.
