We have two main types of slate on offer for our slate house signs, these are labelled as smooth and natural across the website. Below are examples to give you an idea of the appearance of each.

Smooth slate is calibrated (also known as polished down by hand) to create a glossy, flat surface which gives it a uniform and modern appearance.

Unlike smooth slate, natural slate isn't polished, instead the slates natural groovy texture is kept for its unique natural characteristics.

Buying Slate House Signs

What's the difference between etched and engraved slate signs?

We offer both etched and engraved lettering options for your slate house sign. Etched lettering uses a laser to mark the surface of the slate, giving a more natural appearance. Whereas engraving is done by hand with a sandblaster, creating deeper grooves into the face of the slate which can be painted to a colour of your choice. You can choose which option you’d prefer when you select a template to edit.

Are slate house signs good?

Slate stone is a natural resource that is long-lasting, with highly aesthetic characteristics. It gives a much more natural and stylish appearance, increasing kerb appeal when compared to other artificial alternatives such as plastic house signs.

How much is postage for a slate sign?

If you're in the UK, we offer free tracked shipping on all our orders. We offer other postage options at checkout in case you wanted to receive your sign faster for an additional fee. If you're outside the UK, postage is calculated at checkout. Alternatively, you can see how much postage is before finalising your order over on our postage costs and production times page.
