Engraved Slate Signs
Engraved slate signs are made using specialist techniques that provide deep grooves on the face of the slate. Often done with a sandblaster, letters and numbers are engraved by hand using a forceful stream of sand. Once the lettering is deeply engraved, paint can be applied to make the lettering stand out against the dark background of the slate. Common colours are white and silver, but The Bespoke Sign House offers a wide variety of colours should you have a particular preference or want to accurately depict your business logo in colour. You can create your own, by selecting a template from our selection of best-selling slate signs.
Etched Slate Signs
The process to etch slate is done by using a powerful laser that burns the face of the slate but does not provide deep grooves in the same way as the process with engraving. The slate we use at The Bespoke Sign House is dark in colour and extremely durable, the laser is strong enough to alter the shading of the face of the slate from a dark to a pale grey, without damaging the make-up or structure of the slate itself. The only drawback to etched slate is that as the engraving is shallow, the light and dark grey colour contrast can be less obvious when wet, but overall the finish provides crisp lettering with a stylish finish to the slate. Welsh Slate
A popular type of slate originating from, you guessed it, Wales! Welsh slate is a popular choice for a house sign, as it has a chipped edge which gives it a rustic yet classy finish to the slate. Welsh slate is world-renowned being sought after by many for its character. The Bespoke Sign House offers a great range of personalised Welsh slate house signs on our website, which we distribute worldwide!
Brushed Aluminium Signs
A stylish and popular choice, brushed aluminium is used for both a background for acrylic signs or to be engraved or printed on with vinyl. The surface of the copper is brushed to turn it from a shiny surface to dull and textured composition, giving a different visual aesthetic. Brushed aluminium signs have grown increasingly popular, especially since Perspex and acrylic signs started to be made. The Bespoke Sign House also offers copper paint finish on all of our range of house signs, which look great in the summer sun, or stylish in the cold winter months too.
Perspex & Acrylic Signs
A cheap yet modern alternative to traditional slate signs, Perspex is a 5mm plastic sheet that often has vinyl printed onto it to create a Perspex sign. Unlike slate, Acrylic Signs tend to be more popular for commercial properties due to their modern and classy appearance.
Bespoke Signs
Although definitions vary from one manufacturer to another, generally ‘bespoke’ means made to your order specification, making it unique to you. At The Bespoke Sign House, our bespoke house signs are handmade to order, where you have a full overview of the design and appearance of your sign before making your purchase. Using our bespoke sign creator, you can customise the size, lettering, fonts, font sizes, icons, colour, and fixings for your sign, before being hand-made by our specialist team and delivered straight to your door.
Hidden Fixings
Hidden fixings are used to securely attach a sign to your property without showing unsightly fixings or screws. It allows for your sign to be fitted without the need for holes being drilled right through the face of the sign, through into the structure behind. Although slightly more expensive, hidden fixings are much more aesthetically pleasing with a flush finish, as well as reducing the likelihood of any theft of your house sign as it cannot be simply unscrewed and removed. For hidden fixings, long screws are drilled ⅔ of the way into the back of the sign. It then needs to be lined up with holes onto the structure where you wish to attach it, before using epoxy glue on the screws to securely insert the sign into place. With all of our orders where hidden fixings are requested, full-length screws, epoxy glue, and installation instructions are included for easy fitting.
Screw Fixings
Screw fixings are the most common method used to fix a sign to its place. It requires the sign manufacturer to drill two or four holes into the sign, where screws are drilled into wall plugs to secure the sign into the wall. This is the most cost-effective method of installing your sign, as no fancy hidden fixings or epoxy glue is needed to install your sign. Albeit cheaper, it does have its drawbacks as signs can be easier to steal if that is a concern to you, as well as the screw heads tarnishing over time if cap covers are not used. With all of our orders, standard fixings with protective screw caps and easy installation instructions are included unless otherwise specified.
Frosted Acrylic
Usually to describe glass or Perspex, when frosted it takes away its transparent nature giving it the look of a frosty window on a cold winter morning, hence the name.
